The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be held this summer due to the coronavirus outbreak. International spectators are not allowed to travel to Japan to watch upcoming games. However, 10,000 Japanese spectators- or up to 50% of each venue’s capacity – can visit the games, according to IOC and the Japanese government. Wearing face masks for spectators is mandatory, and speaking loudly or shouting is prohibited. Attendees also need to travel directly between their homes and the arena without stopping along the route.

School groups, VIPs, and corporate guests are not included in that count. Besides, Delegates and sponsors are not included in that count as well since they are considered organizers. “By exercising thorough measures and based on the government criteria, we believe we can hold the Games with spectators. The entire world is facing the same issues, and we have to work together to overcome them.” Said Tokyo 2020 organizing committee president Seiko Hashimoto.

In case of a state emergency after July 12, the numbers will be restricted according to the government rules.
