Oludeniz – One of the Most Remarkable Beach Resorts in Turkey

In Turkish, Olu means dead, and Deniz means sea, but it turns to blue Lagoon when you translate Oludeniz. They called it “Dead Sea” since the waters are very calm even during the storms.

When it comes to paragliding, Oludeniz is one of the most amazing resorts with its mountain backdrops and diving resorts in Turkey. If you ever needed an adventurous vacation, count on Oludeniz is the right choice since this town has many attractive places to visit.

Location

Oludeniz is a small village surrounded by blue gradients of Aegean and Mediterranean sea. In fact, this village is at the conjunction of both seas. The beach is situated in the Fethiye district of Mugla province. When you look at this area from above, you’ll see one of the most eye-catching sceneries ever; the turquoise waters meet white sands. There is a selection of hotels, restaurants, and bars between the mountain and the public beach with various qualities.

What to Do?

I recommend you to have a plan if you want to enjoy every single activity in Oludeniz since there are many things to do among which are water sports, paragliding, sunbaths, hiking, surfing around the village, visiting ancient places, and learning about history and archeology are some of them. Don’t forget to try Turkish foods and also Turkish baths.

Water Sports

Experience the real excitement with parasailing. You’ll get up to 1000 feet of the ground and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the deep blue seas. This sport is one of the most adrenaline-pumping activities ever. Right the moment you’re strapped in the parasail, you’ll feel the thrill.

Paragliding

Babadağ Daği is located in the east of oludeniz. Mount Cragus is about 2000 meters and is an ultimate leisure resort for paragliding. If you’re not a big fan of paragliding, you can climb this mountain to enjoy the path and the incredible view of green trees and blue waters.

Sunbathing

When it comes to the beaches, there’s always a sunbath in the back of our minds. Though it’s possible to sunbathe on the beach, it would be more appropriate if you don’t go topless, especially around Turkish families on public beaches.

Where to Visit

Dalyan

The best resort in Oludeniz for adventurers is Dalyan. Thanks to Mother Nature, there are many natural attractions in this town that are located between Marmaris and Fethiye. You may imagine the only attraction is the turtle-filled sea which you can see through the glassy turquoise waters on a boat, but mud baths are somethings to see too.

As you know, the minerals in mud can affect your skin since they can detoxify and tone the skin and also absorb the extra oil. If you get sunburnt, you may need to know that mud also has an inflammatory effect. Dalyan also provides water sports and bike rides.

Kelebekler Vadisi, Butterfly Valley

Kelebekler Vadisi, translated as “the Butterfly valley”, is situated along the coastal highway and is really picturesque. If you wonder why they call it Butterfly valley, your answer is because of the variety of different species of butterflies in this valley.

I recommend those who would like to spot butterflies, plan their vacation in good time or roam around quietly. This place is a great canyon considered as one of the most amazing places in Turkey. Thanks to limited ways to get there, this slice of heaven is almost untouched, and you can appreciate mother nature artwork.

However, there are some facilities and an extended camping area, so you don’t have to think about your lack of comfort. Butterfly Valley is a chilling place, but it’s a stop for pirate party boats, leaving Oludeniz daily. Though they have a shortstop, it may be overwhelming for some people.

You have to keep some points in mind that if you’re going to visit Butterfly Valley, there’s a lot of walking and rock-climbing, so you’ll need comfortable and water-resistant shoes since there is a waterfall at the end of the path. You can consider visiting Butterfly Valley of Oludeniz as a short hike.

Even if you don’t spend time hiking around, you can chill on the beach and have some rest in the shade of trees on a sunny day.

Kayakoy

In case you’re a history lover, make sure to visit Kayaköy, located against the Taurus Mountains and Oludeniz beaches in the European area of Turkey. Narrow streets, roofless buildings, and all the ruins don’t make kayaköy an ancient city, it’s just loads of ruins of a modern city that was abandoned in the 1920s for political reasons.

Most homes are sitting empty and roofless. There’s also two orthodox churches which are spotlit in the evening and make a surreal scenery. You may like to know that UNESCO has adopted Kayakoy as a World Friendship and Peace Village.

Traditional Foods

You can’t travel to Turkey and don’t taste a piece of their amusing foods. Turks like to adorn their dining tables with Meze, which consists of a series of dishes. Actually, Meze has a variety of flavors among which are vegetables, greens, yogurt, and cheese.

Shishkebab is another Turkish food which is a dish of little pieces of lamb. Doner kebabs were also cooked with Lamb meat, but nowadays, they cook it with chicken, beef, veal, and turkey too. In Turkey, they originally serve it with pitta or any other type of bread with lettuce, tomato, and their special sauce, or they can simply serve it on a plate.

Traditional Bath

In Oludeniz, traditional baths are offered in hotels and saunas, and I strongly recommend you to wrap yourself in a “Sarong” and lay on a heated marble while enjoying the body Loofah Scrub and feel the warm bubbles on your skin. Don’t worry about the expenses since it takes a little charge at all. The prices vary from one place to another.

When to Go?

Oludeniz has a dry climate due to the mountains, which block out the rain and cold winds. The best time to go to Oludeniz for heliophiles is in the summer, when the temperature is between 24°C  and 33°C in July and August. The best time to swim in the sea is in July since the water temperature rises to 24°C.

All in all, autumn and spring are appropriate for people who don’t like the intense heat of the summer. The average temperature would be around 16°C to 23°C. Here you can have a look at the average temperature in Oludeniz (Aegean Region).
