Day 4 Ceylon Eco & Safari Tour

Day 01 - Airport to Galle

  • Pick up from the Airport
  • Leave for Galle
  • Arrive at Balapitiya & commence Boat Safari at Madu River.
  • Madu River, a wetland estuary spreading over 900 hectares of which 770 hectares are covered with water and inhabited with 64 islands. The boat ride is a wonderful way to take a closer look at this complex wetland ecosystem; a world heritage site protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands being one of the last wetlands in Sri Lanka to contain a pristine mangrove forest. Journey past massive mangrove forests, glide under the canopy of the forest tunnels as they curve playfully towards the watercourse. Take in the unique biodiversity of the Madu River and its surrounding islands that boasts of hundreds of birds, plants, fish, and animals.
  • After Lunch Get into a Glass Bottom boat
  • Ride at Hikkaduwa to see underwater corals.
  • Foreign and local tourists come to see the famous “coral gardens” of Hikkaduwa, for the tourist who doesn’t like to get their feet wet glass bottom boats are available while others snorkel to reach them which are filled with brightly colored corals and marine life.
  • Arrive at Galle
  • Commence Galle city tour including a visit to the Dutch Fort A city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka.   • On the way visit at Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery
  • Globally, all seven species of marine turtles are endangered. Of these seven, five come ashore to nest in Sri Lanka. The process of marine turtles nesting, hatchlings being born, and swimming back to sea is fascinating to observe. The Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery which primarily operates as a hatchery is a great place to observe collected and rescued eggs hatch and then safely released into the sea.
  • Continue the journey to Colombo
  • Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 02 - Colombo to Wasgamuwa

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Proceed to Wasgamuwa via Knuckles region.
  • Arrive at Riverstone area
  • Enjoy botanical environmental beauty with the backdrop of Knuckles Range and visit Pitawala Pathana and Small Worlds End. Have a River Bath in Thelgamu Oya at Illukkumbura. Wasgamuwa is well known for its abundant wildlife population, wilderness setting, and home of several interesting ancient sites.

  • DAY 03 - Wasgamuwa
  • Leave Hotel early morning for a half-day safari at Wasgamuwa with picnic breakfast.
  • Wasgamuwa is well known for its abundant wildlife population, wilderness setting, and home of several interesting ancient sites. Wasgamuwa is distinguished from other parks by having a full complement of predators of which bears are particularly noteworthy. Ecological research undertaken in the park suggests that the density of bears in Wasgamuwa is probably higher than anywhere else in Sri Lanka. Wasgamuwa located in the district of Matale, between Polonnaruwa and Habarana, 225 km away from Colombo, Wasgamuwa is the best place to observe Elephants. The nearest large town is Polonnaruwa, 10 km from the northern boundary. The best time to enjoy the sight of large herds is from November to May. In the rest of the year, the elephants tend to migrate to nearby Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks. Other wildlife includes Purple-faced langur monkeys, wild boar, sambar and spotted deer, buffalo, and rarely sighted leopards and sloth bears. Among the reptiles are water monitor, mugger crocodile, estuarine crocodile, and python.
