Day 1 Full Day Venture into the Nam Khan River Valley

This tour will serve different activities based on 2 different seasons: high water season and low water season.

Hereunder is the detail program for each season.

High water season, August to January

At the departure time, you will be greeted and picked up at your hotel’s lobby by an English speaking guide and a driver. You will be driven about 30 minutes out of Luang Prabang city to the elephant camp which is situated on the banks of the Nam Khan River. Once you arrive there, you will be welcomed by the camp manager. He will deliver a short introduction about elephant. You will be impressed at interesting information about elephants, a symbol of Laos which is commonly known as land of a Million Elephants (Lane Xang). After that, you will enjoy an impressive experience of riding the elephant. You will be on the howdah (elephant seat) or on the elephant’s neck. It must be a fascinating experience to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Nam Khan River Valley on an elephant’s back.

After that, you will embark on a boat to reach the impressive Tad Sae Waterfall (this destination is available seasonally). Coming here, you will enjoy yourself with a refreshing swimming or spend time exploring the surrounding jungle. Then, you will have lunch prepared by the waterfall before taking a boat ride to the Tiger Trail Adventure Camp where you will prepare your kayaking adventure.

Arriving at the Camp, you will be firstly delivered a short safety review of kayaking skills. Then, you will start your kayaking journey which takes you about 3-4 hours. The kayaking is a beautiful stretch of 20 km (12 mi) with easy-to-medium level of difficulty. This journey is suitable for even beginners. Throughout the journey, you will be impressed by the scenic landscapes of jungle, local fishing villages and rice fields.

At the end, you will be driven back to Luang Prabang city and the tour ends.

Low water season, February to July

During the low-water season, the elephant riding and kayaking itinerary is similar with the exception that you will not visit the Tad Sae Waterfall if the water level there is too low or dry. Instead, you will have chance to take beautiful photos of white sand beaches and riverbanks exposed when the river’s water level is low. In addition, you will take a short walk from the river to visit Henri Mahout’s tomb in the jungle.

The kayaking journey ends at Geng Noun which is just below the local Ban Noun village. This journey is about 11 km (7 mi) easy level and take approximately 3 hours with breaks included.
