Nestled in the arid semi-desert region of eastern Georgia, near the border with Azerbaijan, David Gareja Lavra is part of a larger monastic complex.
The David Gareja complex includes dozens of cave monasteries, chapels, cells, and refectories carved directly into the sandstone cliffs. The interiors are adorned with remarkable frescoes dating back to the 9th-13th centuries, showcasing Georgian artistry and Christian themes.
Located near the picturesque town of Sighnaghi in eastern Georgia’s Kakheti region, Bodbe Monastery is surrounded by lush greenery and overlooks the Alazani Valley.
Bodbe Monastery is closely tied to St. Nino, the 4th-century female evangelist who converted Georgia to Christianity. St. Nino is believed to have spent her final days here, and the monastery is built over her burial site.
Just imagine, you will be able to visit Qvevri Master-Zaza Kbilashvili, Kindzmarauli Corporation and Khareba Wine Tunnel in Kvareli.
Kakheti, located in the eastern part of Georgia, is widely regarded as the heart of Georgian wine culture. Georgia is often referred to as the "Cradle of Wine" due to its 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition, making it one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world.
Archaeological evidence shows that winemaking in Georgia dates back to 6,000 BCE, with clay vessels called Qvevri being central to the process. These egg-shaped vessels are buried underground, allowing wine to ferment naturally, a method still used today.
The Kakheti region is home to some of Georgia's most iconic vineyards and wineries producing all sorts of wines, including dry wine. Native grape varieties such as Saperavi (red) and Rkatsiteli (white) thrive here, producing red wine and white wines with unique flavors and deep cultural significance.
This wine region is known for its ancient winemaking traditions, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. A wine tour in Kakheti offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich history of Georgian wine, savor its diverse flavors, and explore the cultural heritage of the region.
Without a doubt, the Tbilisi tour is a unique experience. However, Tbilisi wasn’t the first capital of Georgia. The first capital is located not far from Tbilisi.
You will visit the old capital of Georgia town Mtskheta and discover UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari Monastery, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Samtavro Monastery and medieval monastic complex "the cave of Shio" located in a narrow limestone canyon.
Jvari Monastery is one of Georgia's most iconic spiritual sites. Its strategic location offers panoramic views of Mtskheta and the surrounding valleys, adding to its spiritual allure.
Svetitskhoveli is one of the most sacred sites in Georgia. It was constructed in the 11th century and has served as a burial place for Georgian kings.
According to legend, the cathedral is built over the burial site of Christ's robe, which was brought to Georgia in the 1st century by a local Jew named Elias. The miraculous pillar that arose from this site inspired the cathedral’s name.
Samtavro Monastery, dating back to the 4th century, is associated with St. Nino, who lived and prayed here after converting the Georgian royal family to Christianity. The current structure was built in the 11th century.
The monastery is also the burial site of King Mirian and Queen Nana, King Mirian was the first Christian ruler of the Kingdom of Kartli.
In the evening you will have dinner in a restaurant where you can appreciate Georgian traditional folklore.
