Trekking Adventure in Manaslu: Explore the Himalayas and Tibetan Culture

Welcome to Kathmandu. It's where your trek to Manaslu begins. As you land at the airport, the representatives of Himalayan Planet Adventure will be waiting for you at the terminal. You will then be escorted to your hotel to freshen up. Visit our office after you have rested and you will meet up with your guide and briefed about your upcoming trek and other programs (if any). Then in the evening, join us for your welcome dinner with a typical cultural program. After dinner, you will be dropped at your hotel for the night.

The second day, you will see the beauty of the Kathmandu valley. Kathmandu, which is also acknowledged as the town of temples, will display you several architectural and religious points of interest with wood and stone crafts designed by using many historical artisans with beautiful carvings all over. Kathmandu valley houses 7 out of 10 World Heritage Sites of Nepal as introduced by using UNESCO. Out of those seven, you will be traveling three of them. The first one is the Pashupatinath temple. Right after breakfast, get on your car the place you will journey to the Pashupatinath temple complex. It will be a journey of about 30-45 minutes. The temple of Pashupatinath covers 0.64 hectares of land with more than 500 temples and shrines. It consists of the vicinity of both sides of the holy river Bagmati. The main temple, committed to Lord Shiva, has a pagoda-style of structure with a massive bronze bull statue dealing with the original temple. It is a spiritual abode for Hindu, and it gets many worshippers from India and any other nation with Hindu people. The banks of river Bagmati has cremation sites for Hindu where they are burnt after their demise. Also, you will see many Sadhus who have dedicated their lives to Lord Shivas and are staying there performing their daily rites.

Next is the Boudhanath Stupa. It is a Buddhist nun secular website with a big white dome standing 36 meters tall. Made in mandala style, The Boudhanath Stupa is surrounded via many monasteries and is a middle for Tibetan Buddhism. So, you can see many Tibetan refugees around the place of Boudhanath who are currently residing there. The Stupa is full of life and a peaceful region with many prayer wheels surrounding it. The prayer flags that are laced in the stupa sway in the winds. The prayer mantras will bind and cleanse you from inside. There are additionally many Buddha photos on the white dome surrounding the complete Stupa. After a few moments there, get on your vehicle to march on the final destination for the day.

Finally, we visit the city of devotees, Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is an old city with many historic structures with crafty old designs engraved in them. Your leading vacation spot in Bhaktapur will be the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The urgent appeal in this vicinity is 55 window palace and Nyatapola temple. Also, strive local curd made in that district; it is quite famous. You will stay in Kathmandu for the night.

This day is your first day of the trek to Manaslu. You will be picked up early morning and driven to your first destination for the whole trek from which your real trek continues. From Kathmandu, you will head to Arunghat, which is about 8 hours of drive and then to Soto Khola, which is about 2 hours of the trip. So, you have 10 hours of traveling time for the day. The roads will be graveled at first, but as you approach nearer to Soti Khola, the ride will be all dusty and bumpy. After your arrival at Soti Khola, you will have a fantastic landscape at your site with great terraced farms, stone-paved ways, and picturesque villages. You will be staying at Soti Khola for the night.

The next day is the real beginning of your Manaslu Circuit Trek in which you will walk for about 6 hours through the narrow path and rocky trail. You will find yourself surrounded by a stunning view of the countryside. After the further walk, you will reach sal forest and must pass through it. Encountering many waterfalls, rivers, and cliffs, you will reach villages of Gurung and Ghale inhabitants. The journey is filled with rough paths below your feet, but the surrounding attractions will make each step more breathtaking than the other. Finally, your trek for the day ends at Machha Khola where you will spend the night.

Walking hours for this day is roughly 7 hours on the twisting roads of banks of the Budi Gandaki river. Firstly, cross Machha Khola and then pass through a forest trail. Be in the lookout for monkeys and langurs in the forest. Then you will reach a Gurung village on the way. You can also enjoy a hot water bath on your way to Jagat if time is on your side. Cross a suspension bridge that takes you to Dovan. Walking across wooden and long cantilever bridges. On your way, you must verify your trekking permit and march to Jagat where you will be staying for the night.

The new day of your journey begins in the early morning. It will be about 8 hours of the trip to Deng. You will pass through many Buddhist prayer flags and Gompas. Your trekking permit will again be checked at Phillip. It feels rough as your permissions are checked over and over yet, but Manaslu Circuit Zone is a restricted area, and legal authorities and government control the trek. After your permits are checked, walk along the western bank of the river to your destination for the day. You will find a forest of pine and rhododendron along with overhanging rocks on peaks. The path is filled with impressive and magnificent waterfalls, George and suspension bridges, and as you cross a bamboo forest, you will approach Deng. You will stay at Deng for the night.

The trail is uneven and zigzag from the river. So be careful on the 6 hours of the path to Namrung. Cross suspension bridges to Rana and Bihi Phedi on your way. You will find many Mani Stones on your way. Pass through the forest and then climb to Namrung village. On reaching Namrung, you will see views of Ganesh Himal, Siringi Himal, and Mt. Himal Chuli from the south. Stay at Namrung for the night.

The next day is about 4 hours of trek to Lho Gaun. You will meet Nubri people on your way to Lho Gaun whose lifestyle is influenced by Tibetan culture. You will pass through Mani walls, lush terraces and many forests of fir, oak, and rhododendron. Many locals are found in Tibetan dress. Look out for beautiful painting in gates arches. You will get to see peaks like Manaslu, Manaslu North and also Pungen Glacier on the way. You will stay at Lho Gaun for the night.

Today, the trail is easy through pine, rhododendron, and magnolia. The clear streams are seen with pastures and settlements. As you enter Sama Gaun, you will find significant Gompas, shrines, and a health post there. You will stay for the night in Sama Gaun.

Today is the acclimatization day in Sama Gaun. There are options on what you can do in Sama Gaun. You have a choice of hiking towards Manaslu Base Camp or Pungyen Gompa or Birendra Tal. You can get acquainted with Sherpa cultures and rituals of locals in Sama Gaun. Then move towards one of the destinations of your choice and convenience. It will be a full day hike of 6 hours at least. Pungyen Gompa is one of the destinations on the east of Nubri valley. You can view Mt. Manaslu much clearly from there. Also, look out for grazing cattle on the pastures land on your way. Manaslu Base Camp is at the north of Sama Gaun, and on the road, you can see Birendra Tal from there. Later, return to Sama Gaun for the night.

Today, ascend slow and steady at high altitudes. It will take 4-5 hours to reach Samdo. On the way, you can see many Mani walls, yak pastures and many types of birds. Cross many wooden bridges and meadows to the valley. The trail is accessible through the forest, and you can reach Samdo after passing through large white Kani. You will stay at Samdo for the night.

Continue down the edge, cross Budi Gandaki over a wooden bridge and walk upward. It will be 4-5 hours of the trek today. You can see the chain of Himalayas over rugged terrain. After crossing some streams, you can see Larkya Glacier. Move towards Dharamsala where you will find a trading village called Larkya Bazaar. As it is a short-day trek, you will have enough time to explore the market and acclimatize too. You will stay in Dharamsala for the night.

Today you will reach the highest point of your Manaslu Circuit Trek, Larkya La Pass. You must start the trek early as it is 10 hours of journey to Bimthang. You will be welcomed by many peaks like Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Mt. Kang Guru, and Annapurna II. You must descend to huge icefalls and find 360 degrees of mountain views and walk through low pastures before reaching Bimthang. You will stay at Bimthang for the night.

This is the last day of your actual trek. It is 8 hours of trek to Dharapani. After crossing a rough pass, the trek is a piece of cake. Walkthrough the lush forest of pine and rhododendron bushes. The view of the Marsyangdi valley is breathtaking. You will find many agricultural lands on the way, and police checkpoints too. On the way to Dharapani, you will reach Tilje famous for local alcohol made by the Gurung community. You will stay at Dharapani for the night.

Today, you will drive down to Beshishahar. It will be 8 hours’ drive down to Beshishahar. So, relax on your way down and give your body the rest it needs as you might have a sore foot in this trek to Manaslu. Also, see mountain views on your way down that will mesmerize you. Overnight will be at Beshishahar.

Overnight at Hotel.

Today is the departure to the city of Kathmandu. You will follow a path along famous rivers to Kathmandu. After you arrive at Kathmandu, make sure to soak up in warm water and relax for the time being. In the evening, celebrate your successful attempt to Manaslu with us as you will have your last meal as a farewell dinner with us. This day is the day in which you will depart this mountain country and go back to your day to day lives. After breakfast, go for a last-minute memento shopping as we will organize for your ride to the airport.
